I think the issues are how long it will really be until GW2 and how much attrition of the player base Anet deems acceptable in the interim. Assuming it will be as long as late 2009 until GW2 is released then substantial further losses in the active GW player base will occur. Investing resources in providing additional activities/content for GW to slow this attrition makes sense only if it does successfully increases the future potential player base for GW2 or is priced at a level to provide an adequate return to Anet.
Personally, my view is that any substantial additional content for GW would need to generate projected revenue sufficient to offset development costs plus provide a profit sufficient to offset Anet's cost of capital. In other words I am not expecting any more free content.
Having said that I wouldn't mind seeing more in-game PvE activities like the hunt for the baby moa minipet but for special items and/or armor.

Personally I think they should.
GWEN is no where near big enough or fun enough to keep people playing for another 1-2 years while we wait. Yes you can make new characters, but the game is so thinned out now because of 3 campaigns and an expasnion that older content is harder to play with PUGs and AI doesnt always cut it or make it fun.
Yes you could spend 2 years collecting pets, or grinding titles or collecting armor or weapons or doing dungeons, but there is a limit.
GWEN should have been bigger then it was or Anet should add new content to GWEN like they did SF in prophercies. We need something to keep us interested.
They have proven they can rush things out and do a half-decent job...

New expansion, no.
But I wouldn't mind if they actually made new dungeons and to stop using the same freaking dungeons for a bunch of different dungeons.
Like frostmaw has the snowman's lair level in it, some have chucks from other dungeons in it that are modiffied to be extended. Which is a real lazy way of making new dungeons. And if you think about it, taking level 1 from dungeon A, and level 3 from dungeon B to make dungeon C, doesn't make it a new dungeon. Makes it a rip off from the makers of the game.

Far from that. Hard Mode had everything that we *didn't* ask for, the things we were afraid of getting: Higher levels, more damage, same dumbass AI - and even more horrible builds.

They shouldn't. They should finish Gw:en!, there's a huge area southwest of Verdant Cascades that has nothing in it, the island to the northwest of tyria has nothing in it, there still lots of space left in the factions area, in the mountains surrounding The Jade Sea and Echovald Forest, they could all be used to make something new like with Grenth's Footprint. And they should add the sylvari in Gw:en too, not just GW2 >.>

Exactly, instead of making AI smarter, they just gave all the enemies permiment speed buffs.
At least some GW:EN areas have monsters with smarter skill bars.

Would I like more content, yeah sure, it would be a wonderful surprise. Just hire two guys and make them sit in the corner writing an expansion ;-p. It makes me sad that the world works in a 'no, they must focus everyone on GW2' way, because I don't know if I care about Gw2 yet, whereas I know I love Gw1, but that's the way it is.
Still got loads to do without expansions; anything added would be a cool surprise which I don't expect to happen but would seriously boost my happiness with the company and the longevity I would get out of the game.

Well, from what I've seen, the engine has more potential, but we don't know how much. Perhaps the engine just isn't able to do all the cool stuff we had originally hoped for them to produce many years ago.
Remember when they said EoTN would have new emotes? I do. That never happened. Not saying that the Engine is bad, but perhaps Anet has never spent alot of time messing around with it to truly learn its potential.
But yeah, lets hope that in GW2 alot of the cool features we have been wanting will be added. I would love another expansion, however.

That is a load of rubbish and you know it. Hard Mode is the only place in PvE where the skills you bring actually matter. It is the only place where you actually notice what skills mobs have. Jade Brotherhood Mages can be walked over in your sleep in normal mode, but vanquishing Tahnnakai Temple will give you a newfound respect for them. The single most devastating skill in Watchtower Coast is Soul Barbs -- when did one ever notice that skales had this skill in normal mode? Horrible builds? Inferno imps barely scratch you in normal mode, but can easily flatten the unprepared with Rodgort's Invocation spikes. Grawl Crones are rubbish in NM, but can land effective Chilblains spikes in HM. Sparkfly Swamp is a walk in the park in normal mode, but just try running into a mob with multiple Tlamatini and Cuicani in HM and you will want to join the PvPers in calling for more paragon nerfs.
The AI is predictable, and therefore counterable. But the counter for HM is not an empty skillbar.

The bolded part is exactly the reason why HM is boring: Just bigger numbers. Your examples are only proving my point: That they didn't do anything but buff the damage that monsters do, along with their level and health and attack speed. They'll still furiously attack a character with Guardian, interrupt Warrior skills, and attack all of the minions instead of their master. That's it.
And horrible builds? Go fight all of the Grawl in Ascalon, and tell me what elite their Monks are using.

That doesn't really make it sound a whole lot more difficult, you know.

You are complaining that HM foes can spike better? Maybe you need to lern2monk then instead of quarreling with your tools.

And you miss. That's totally not what I said.
And to emphasize, they don't "spike better," it's just damage from one single skill - because it's been buffed to hell. One skill cast by one guy. The AI isn't set up to all-at-once cast X. They just give such-and-such 20 in Fire attribute and taa-daa!!!

Look, if you want a challenge, there is a grand old side of Guild Wars that will gladly give you one. Writing game AI is not easy and I am glad for what we have instead of pining for an unachievable ideal.

The AI is good enough as it is if Heroes are any indication. If you give them an effective build they will easily outclass any mediocre henchman or mob on even ground. But it's easier to just pump up enemies with ten more levels, twice as many hitpoints, four times the armor and resistances, and three times the damage output.

We're all grateful for what we get. But a lot of people's expectations were that HM would provide more of a challenge than it did. It was just more of the same, just more op'd stupid monsters.
And yes, I can understand how hard it can be to achieve, how hard it can be to have actual smart and tactical battles. With HM, we realized this. We realized that this is all we can get. That's why PvE can never be truly satisfying.

Actually each progressive chapter has done more and more to destroy PvE as we know it and EotN just put the last shovel of dirt on the grave. The PvE skills are ridiculously overpowered. They made things so common and easy to get that there is no reward system anymore. One of the joys of the games though has always been the graphics and the landscapes. Well that kind of got screwed when they said "Hey look we're making dungeons ain't it cool?" and then reused whole friggin rooms from other dungeons. I know I've seen the Cathedral of Flames in other dungeons. Ooze pit is replicated as well. I bet someone knows the area I'm talking about too, columns in a corridor with water and torchlight. Yeah seen that on multiple occasions. Arachni's Haunt and Ooze pit and Vloxen excavations all use that exact same corridor. That's just lazy. I'd rather they just focus their energy on making GW2 good rather than trying to piss on the grave of a once good game.

i think like all MMOs, gw1 should get updated with SF style updates for things on different continents. Tyria has SF... give Cantha something like "the Hidden Temple of Tengu" or something crazy. underground dungeons ect. Elona could get "the Secret Fortress of Kourna" ect.
i dont want new professions by any means, but im all for more pve skills, more dungeons/solo quest, and WEAPON SKINS!... hell.. maybe even armor skins to keep some of us collector freaks happy !
